GENERAL INFORMATION ON DOWNLOADING AND PRINTING HUMAN RIGHTS LIBRARY WEB DOCUMENTS

Documents in the University of Minnesota Human Rights Library are supplied in one or more of three formats: HTML, plain text, and/or PDF (Adobe Portable Document Format).

Most of our documents are supplied in HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) format. To save the HTML document on your PC hard disk, use your Web browser's File/Save As function. Make sure that you save the document as text, otherwise you will save the document as HTML source code, and it will not be very readable.

Plain text files can be printed or saved using your Web browser, in the same manner as HTML files. The only difference is that the document is already text, and you don't have to worry about saving it "as text".

When PDF files are supplied, they will contain the entire paper or other document as published, including the original page markings, with all charts and figures. PDF files can be downloaded and saved on the PC hard disk for later viewing, or they can be viewed directly by clicking on the file name if you have configured your Web browser to use the Adobe PDF viewer. In either case, you will need to have the Adobe viewer (freeware) from www.adobe.com if you don't already have it, and the files will remain on your hardrive's temporary directory until removed.
